The chiropractic profession possesses a rich heritage that began on September 18, 1895 when Daniel David Palmer gave the first adjustment inDavenport,Iowa. Palmer studied the spine and learned how to free full nerve flow to the body which promoted healing. His son B.J. Palmer later founded Palmer School of Chiropractic, the world’s premier chiropractic college at the turn of the century. Take a minute to learn about common chiropractic myths—and the facts.

MYTH: Spinal adjustments hurt.

FACT: Rather than cause pain, spinal adjustments give relief by removing nerve interference. In 1993, an Ontario Ministry of Health study stated that “no clinical or case-control study demonstrates or even implies that chiropractic spinal manipulation is unsafe in the treatment of low-back pain.”

MYTH: Chiropractors only treat back pain.

FACT:  Chiropractic science concerns itself with the relationship between the structure (primarily the spine) and the function (coordinated by the nervous system) in the body.  This relationship between structure and function affects the restoration and preservation of health in all of the body’s systems.  Many problems may be caused by disruptions in the nervous system as a result of spinal misalignments (subluxations).

MYTH: Chiropractors lack education in comparison to medical doctors.

FACT: Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.) undergo very similar training to Doctors of Medicine (M.D.). After completing four years of undergraduate studies, chiropractic students then go on to complete four to five additional years of graduate studies at an accreditedChiropracticCollegeor University.  In addition to their academic and clinical studies, chiropractic students undergo several hundred hours of patient care and management in a clinical setting, and then must take rigorous National Board Exams and State Board Examinations to achieve licensure. Once licensed, chiropractors are often required to receive additional education each year, depending on the state in which they practice.

MYTH: Once you see a chiropractor, you must keep going.

FACT: Millions of people return to a chiropractor, well after their symptoms have passed, as a matter of choice. They realize the difference chiropractic has made in their health and see the value of keeping their spines healthy for life. For example, do you think that healthy teeth can be maintained for a lifetime with sporadic dentist visits? Just as teeth battle plaque regularly, our spinal tissues undergo daily bombardment of stresses originating from bad postural habits, suboptimal work environments, psychological stress, chemical stress and hectic lifestyles. Regular care is optional, but also optimal.

Chiropractors have taught the principles of health for more than a century. It’s no wonder that people who choose to see a chiropractor for wellness are some of the healthiest people on the planet. Science is now catching up and showing that chiropractic care is one of the best ways to be healthy for life.

Why Does My Back Hurt?

Disc bulges and herniations are quite common in our population. People from adolescence through adulthood are susceptible to having them. You have discs up and down your entire spine, meaning in the neck, upper and middle back, lower back, and tail bone regions.

Your discs help to allow for motion and proper function of your spine. Picture your disc as a slice of an onion. Imagine the inner 1/3 containing a jelly and the other 2/3 as being cartilage, not unlike the meniscus of your knee.

Over time and due to certain traumas, both macro (big) and micro (small), the jelly begins to break through your onion ‘rings’ of the outer 2/3 of the onion.

Sooner or later the jelly inside gets to the outer few layers and forces a ‘bulge’ of the cartilage.

This is what is commonly considered to be a disc bulge. If a bulge is left untreated, it will most often lead to the jelly breaking through the last few layers and leaking into the spinal canal. This is what we call a herniation. If the herniation breaks off, this is called a prolapse.

Disc bulges and herniations are many times successfully treated through conservative measures. Unfortunately, disc prolapses (the broken off pieces) can often times put pressure directly on your sensitive spinal cord, and since there is nothing binding them to the rest of the disc, surgery is many times the only option. Luckily, disc prolapses are the end-stage of disc degeneration and a lot can be done prior to getting to this horrible condition.

Tingling (paresthesia, or reduction of sensation) and numbing (anesthesia, or loss of sensation) are common effects of disc bulges and herniations. This is because the disc can directly put pressure on YOUR spinal cord or your nerve roots where they exit from your spine. If the pressure is NOT reduced, permanent nerve damage can result.

Simply put, there are no other conservative techniques available that offer the scientific backing for success for the treatment of disc pathology like chiropractic at this office offers!

In the case of burning pain, or radicular pain, the cause is usually irritation of your nerve sheaths, which are the coverings around your sensitive nerves. Irritation like this refers to toxin release from damaged discs, muscles, ligaments, joints, etc. that creates an inflammatory process that engulfs your nerves. This inflammatory process creates pain and dysfunction, which you call symptoms. Call to schedule an appointment today. Don’t wait. Remember permanent nerve damage can result from this if you do not attend to it as soon as possible.

Do You Honestly Care About Your Health?

Here’s a story I’ve given you before, but it’s so important, I’m going to share it with you again. The new mother was told that her “twin” babies had died after birth. However, the truth was far different: they were sent to an institute near Moscow to be studied since they were joined at the hip and the doctors wanted to study them. This was to be the fate of “Masha” & “Dasha”, one of the most unusual set of conjoined twins ever born. Pay close attention to this if you have children or grandchildren.

Siamese twins are formed in the same way as identical twins but the eggs, for some reason, don’t completely separate; instead, they remain partially attached. Because their circulatory systems are interconnected, the twins shared each other’s blood. A germ that enters one twin’s bloodstream would soon be seen in the blood of her sister. Now here is the kicker. Surprisingly, illness affected them differently. Dasha was near-sighted, prone to colds and right-handed. *Masha* was a healthier constitution, higher blood pressure, good eyesight and is left-handed.

The twins differing health pattern presented a mystery. How could one girl become ill with a childhood disease while the other one did not? The measles “bug” was in both of their bodies, in their collective bloodstream; so why didn’t they both get the measles? What made one healthier than the other? This phenomenon was seen over and over again with the girls (flu, colds, other diseases were all experienced separately). If ‘germs alone’ had the power to cause infectious diseases, why would one of the twins be disease-free while the other was ill? What was it in their makeup that differentiated one from the other?

The answer was in their nervous system. Although the twins had common circulatory, digestive, excretory, lymphatic, endocrine and skeletal systems (they were joined at the hips remember), they had separate spinal columns, separate brains, and separate spinal cords.

This was a very important difference between the girls, but something most doctors would have missed. In these extraordinary twins, nature’s “laboratory” devised an experiment that no researcher could ever duplicate. The twins are an invaluable example confirming that there is much more to “catching” a disease than simply breathing in germs; germs can make you sick if, and only if, your body provides them fertile ground in which to grow.

The state of your nervous system can determine whether or not (and how quickly) you will recover. By keeping your spinal column and nervous system FREE from misalignment (subluxation stress), chiropractic care keeps you in a higher state of health, hence able to ward off dis-eases.

There is no shortage of theories to explain the role of the subluxation in disease and the effect of the adjustment in relieving symptomatology. Your autonomic nervous system (that part of your nervous system which controls vital functions in your body) may be effected by spinal dysfunction or subluxation causing a compromise in that function.

Immunity is one such function which can be adversely affected if your spine is not aligned. You know as well as I do if the front end of your car is misaligned, it’s going to affect the ride, and the tires. They are going to wear out and you’re going to spend more money until you fix the problem.

The same is true for your dynamic body and spine. If they are not aligned, things are going to happen that will cost you more money in the end. If you want to stay as healthy as you can, and this includes your children, make sure your spine is checked on a regular basis. If it’s not checked on a regular basis, you are more apt to get disease. It really is as simple as that.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Resolved with Chiropractic

“In the summer of 1992 I began to feel pain and noticed swelling in my Right hand as well as both ankles. After a period of time I had a test for lyme disease which came back negative.”

“My medical doctor then sent me for arthritis testing which came back positive for Rheumatoid Arthritis.”

“Not knowing what to do I was advised through a relative to call a  Chiropractor, The Chiropractor examined me, he knew exactly what was wrong.”

“At that time I began care. Within the first three weeks of care I noticed a great change in my condition. The pain, and especially the inflammation, began to go away!”

“Within the next two months most, if not all, of the inflammation in my hand and ankles was gone. I have maintained my health through chiropractic care for the last two and a half years.”

Chiropractic Research Facts about Life Expectancy

Here’s something I want you to think about. Your life expectancy facts. The Projected World Population Will Change from 2005 to 2040. People 100 years or older will increase by 746% according to the US Census Bureau. I’m not sure about that one, but it’s something that sounds good anyway.

More than half of all the babies born since 2000 can expect to live to 100.  That comes from the Lancet but we won’t be around to find out if they’re right. Researchers tell us that thirty percent of aging is based on genetics and that 70% is attributed to lifestyle choices.

Most likely your oldest relative lived to be around 75.  So you have their genes. Adjust your lifestyle and enjoy the quality of life you deserve.

Nervous System Facts:

Your Brain has more than a billion neurons. That might not mean much to you, but that allows it to store more than 100 trillion bits of information which no computer can compete with. It regenerates constantly and can renew its cells, even in adulthood. It communicates via your spinal cord to every cell, tissue and organ in your body through 45 miles of nerves. These 45 miles of nerves relay over 3 million messages every second between your brain and every cell in your body at speeds up to 170 m.p.h.

Regeneration is possible with Chiropractic.

Spinal Injury Research Facts: 8-10 mm of pressure, the weight of a single dime, can reduce spinal nerve transmission. 10 mm of pressure can interfere with the nutrition of a nerve, starving it of nutrients. Here’s the key though. If you have “nerve compression” it can exist without pain. That means you can have nerve compression with absolutely NO SYMPTOMS. Stretching a nerve 6% can decrease the strength of its impulse by 70% and this happens to people everyday. After two weeks of immobilization, scar tissue can appear in the bone.

How Spinal Subluxations Happen.

This is something most people don’t understand. They think you have to fall or be in an auto accident to become misaligned. Nothing could be further from the truth. Subluxations or misalignments if you will are caused by the birth process – the falls associated with learning to walk- childhood play, growth spurts.- body and weight changes- physical, chemical and mental stress which everyone has  -intense emotional experiences – auto accidents, work injuries- environmental toxicity, food poisoning -sports injuries, intensive training -hormonal changes – poor posture, excess sitting – trips and falls – sickness or disease. I think that just about covers it, but I know I left some things out. Just because you don’t have any symptoms doesn’t mean you don’t have any nerve problems. Don’t rely on your symptoms to tell you if you need an adjustment. Get checked regularly.

I Love My Adjustments!

I Love My Adjustments!

(Part 1)

I want you to understand one thing. Your adjustments are powerful. They help you STAY healthy as you can, and they make your life better. Once you read this, you’re going to be more excited about being here.

hiropractic care can improve your quality of life and SAVE you money. There are other reasons why people should get adjusted though and why I love my adjustments.

One of the FIRST reasons people seek care is when they have the WARNING SIGNS of spinal malfunction.

What do I mean by WARNING SIGNS and spinal malfunction?  Recurring headaches, neck, shoulder, arm pain, pain between the shoulder blades, numbness in the hands or feet, painful joints, low back and leg pain, scoliosis, etc., are WARNING SIGNS.

People who experience symptoms ON and OFF are at greatest risk!

Did you know that most heart attacks could be prevented if the WARNING SIGNS weren’t ignored, but that’s what most people do. They ignore their WARNING SIGNS.

The SECOND reason you WANT to stay adjusted is to help you STAY healthier, by finding and eliminating your deep seated problems BEFORE they surface. It’s kind of like running out of oil in your car engine. It’ll still start up, and run for awhile, but very shortly after that, it’s going to ‘lock up’ and when this happens, it’s going to cost you a lot of money to FIX IT. Your body is the SAME.

A study in the British science journal ‘Nature‘ demonstrated how the nerve ending filaments in the skin have an affect on your immune function and how these nerve filaments affect certain skin cells called Langerhan Cells. This connection in the skin tissue is a huge discovery because it helps explain why STRESS and psychological states of mind affect your physical condition.

It’s one of the reasons that stress affects so many people, in so many different ways.

Another reason I like to stay adjusted is because I found a study that showed how your immune system is revved up or enhanced by regular adjustments to one specific area of the mid back, (specifically T1-T6.)

Let me explain why this works: YOUR brain communicates or talks to every cell, tissue and organ in your body through your spinal cord. When this vital information isn’t being transferred to your body and its organs because of interference in your spinal column, it isn’t as efficient as it once was. In other words it short circuits, even though you ‘feel wonderful.’ That’s why I like to stay adjusted.

I’ll go over more information in Part II.

I Love My Adjustments!

I Love My Adjustments!

(Part II)

Hi,

I’m back with  Part II.  Remember I talked about adjustments and why they’re so important to your health. Well today I’m going to continue that conversation with you. If you didn’t read Part I, make sure you ask for it.

Then people get under STRESS, and it’s really easy these days, their muscles get all tense: some people grind their teeth, some lose sleep, some develop ulcers, and others gain or lose weight. That’s just a few of the so called lesser symptoms you could experience.

When you’re under STRESS and your muscles become tense – this tenseness will cause your joints not to move properly. Kind of like putting your muscles in a vice. When joints don’t move properly – they start to dry up and wear out and over time – arthritis develops.

In the spine however, when your joints and bones don’t move properly—the nerves (and there are trillions of them) can become irritated (stretched, twisted, or pinched). This doesn’t allow for your brain to communicate with your body.

Then the problems start. Problems start that can’t be seen yet, things like arthritis in the spine starts at an earlier age, your posture changes, you end up living less than normal and you don’t even know it, because it’s a slow, slow process. Some problems begin at earlier ages from a traumatic birth and or other complications.

I’ll use a friend as an example. At age 2 he fell on his head and at the age of 20, X-rays of his neck showed his head was tilting to the left (the side his head had hit) and that he had calcified ligaments in his upper neck, meaning he had arthritis. It took 18 years to show up and he wasn’t experiencing pain of any type. He had been seeing a chiropractor since he was 13 years of age. The doctor rarely adjusted his neck, because he wasn’t complaining of neck pain.

That’s why I make sure not only to check your area of complaint, but other areas as well.

Chiropractic is founded on the premise that the nervous system has profound effects throughout the body. Also, that the nervous system functions normally when the brain communicates with your body and when it doesn’t Dis-ease starts. That’s why spinal adjustments help your nervous system function normally, by getting your joints moving again – to keep them healthy, relax your muscles so that your joints continue to move properly, and finally by allowing your brain to communicate with your body without interference.

There are too many benefits to list right now. Back to the original point concerning the skin cells and their immune function I talked about in Part I. Your skin is our first line of defense against germs (bacteria, viruses, etc.). If your immune system could be improved by a simple adjustment, doesn’t it make sense to get them regularly? People get flu shots as a preventative measure and they have side effects! Why not get adjusted and stay healthy, instead of giving yourself disease!

When you’re sick the adjustments have a direct affect by boosting your immune system. That being the case, doesn’t it make sense to get adjusted even when you’re not sick too! To boost the immune system naturally. If you need an immune system boost, its easy! Pick up the phone and call my office today! I love my adjustments.
